HOW TO PLANT FLOWER BULBS IN THE FALL
Flower Bulbs are the first flowers to come up every spring. Crocus, daffodils, snow drop, muscari, hyacinth, tulips, allium. These flowering bulbs are planted in the fall. They are dormant perennials. They need the cool moist soil to begin growing roots to prepare to bloom in the early spring. The best time to plant them is when the temperature is bellow 60 degrees Fahrenheit, 6 weeks before the first frost. September to November is the ideal time in zone 7B.
When planting the bulbs chose bulbs that are fresh and firm. avoid brittle, rotten and moldy bulbs. Chose an sunny area for the bulbs. They like moist well drained rich in fertilizer soil. When planting you can add compost.
Dig a 3 inch hole in the ground. Add some compost to the hole place the bulb with the point facing up. The root of the bulb facing down. Cover the bulb with soil. The bulb needs to be completely cover to avoid animals digging them out. The bigger the bulb the deeper it need to be. Add some water. They will come up in the spring. Enjoy them.
