HOW TO GROW PARSLEY FROM SEEDS
Parsley is an annual bright green herb. It is used as garnish. It is sprinkled on top of dishes. It has a strong flavor. It is used in soups, stews, casseroles. Parsley is rich in vitamin C, A, K.
Parsley is very easy to grow. It can be planted directly in the ground in spring after the last date. or you can grow indoors 8 weeks before the last frost. It likes a warm sunny spot in your garden with a 70 degree Fahrenheit temperature
When growing outside in the ground pick an area that is sunny and gets 4 to 6 hours of sun daily. When planting the seeds use a well drainage soil. Add a layer of compost. Place the seeds in a glass of lukewarm water for 24 hours before planting them. It will help to germinate faster. Plant them 6 inches apart. They like space to grow.
When growing parsley in containers: pick a container fill it up with soil add the soaked seeds. Covered them with a layer of compost. Press the seeds gently. Add some water. Keep them moist all the time. Place it in a cool lightly shaded area. It will take up to 4 weeks to germinate.
Parsley plant can be replanted to a bigger pot or transfer to the ground when the seedlings are 8 inches tall and have 4 pair of leaves and are 4 inches in a pot. Do not grow parsley next to garlic or lettuce. Parsley will keep growing. Water it often. Don’t let the soil feel dry.
WHEN TO HARVEST PARSLEY
Parsley can be harvested when it is 8 inches tall and has big well formed leaves with at least 3 segments. That happens after 60 days. Take the outer leaves first. The younger leaves will be harvest later. Keep taking the leaves weekly and you will have parsley all year long. especially if you grow indoors.
If you grow outdoors you can harvest parsley until late in the fall. The more you take the more the plant will produce. Harvest them early in the morning. It is when the leaves are the most flavorful. Use a clean pair of pruners cut the leaves at the base of the plant, include the stem to stimulate more grow.
