LEMONGRASS HERB A LEMON SCENTED PLANT

Lemon grass is tropical perennial grass very tall. It grows very nicely in hot areas: zones 9- 11. It is consider an annual plant in other zones. It has a fresh citrusy aroma. Lemongrass is used as a culinary herb. It is used in soups, teas, and curries. Lemongrass is used as pest repellent. Lemongrass is used to combat insomnia. It helps you to relax. It has calming properties.

HOW TO GROW LEMONGRASS HERB FROM SEEDS INDOORS

Lemongrass is very easy to grow. Chose a heavy container 8 inches wide and deep. Fill it up with loamy potting mix with a pH 7. Place the lemongrass seeds on top the container. Cover them with a thin layer of compost. Lemongrass seeds need some light to germinate. Keep the soil temperature to 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Place them near a bright window getting 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight. Lemongrass loves moisture keep the soil very damp. It will take 3 weeks for the seeds to germinate.

HOW TALL LEMONGRASS GROWS

Lemongrass will grow fast if gets enough sun and gets plenty of water. It could grow to 3 feet tall indoors. It has slender arching stalks at least 12 inches tall and 1/2 inches thick. The leaves are very green in the heat and red brownish in the fall. It grows into a tall leafy clump of grass. As it get taller it can be trimmed. Watch it grows and enjoy it.

HOW TO HARVESTING LEMONGRASS

Hold the stalk at the base and pull it up strait. Another way: Use a knife cut the stalk at the base. lemongrass leaves have very small serrations that act like tiny saws. Wear gardening gloves and long sleeves to avoid a grass cut. Keep cutting the stalk the plant will keep growing for the rest of the season.
