GROWING LAVENDER FROM SEEDS IN CONTAINERS

Lavender is a slow growing tropical perennial herb. It grows well in the Mediterranean region. It has a blue, pink, purple, or white flower. It has a very sweet fragrant. Butterflies are attracted to lavender. It is used to make soap, shampoos, creams, perfumes, oil. It is also used to create some food. It has medicinal uses. It has calming, soothing, and sedative effects. it is also used as sedative for insomnia to help with anxiety, depression, and fatigue.

HOW TO GERMINATE THE LAVENDER SEEDS

Lavender seeds are very small. They need to co stratify. Take the seeds and place them in the refrigerator for 2 – 4 weeks. Take the seeds out of the refrigerator place them in a wet towel cover them up. Place them in a container. Cover them. They will germinate after two weeks. They are ready to be transplanted.

HOW TO PLANT THEM?

Chose a planter 8 inches wide 6 inches tall. Filled it with nutritious and well drained soil. Add the compost to the soil. Add the lavender seedling on top of the soil. Cover them with very little soil. Or just press them down gently into the surface. They will start growing. Plant them 18 – 24 inches apart from each other. They like well aerated gravelly soil.

WHAT DO LAVENDER SEEDS NEED?

The best way to grow lavender is to germinate indoors. It is a long process. It takes 21 days to a month for seeds to germinate. Lavender seeds like temperatures above 70 degrees Fahrenheit and plenty of light. Lavender plants needs up to six hours of direct sun daily. keep the PH of the soil at 7. Lavender seeds like plenty of water.

HOW LONG IT TAKES TO FULLY GROW?

Lavender plant will take up to 3 years to be fully mature. It is a slow growing perennial. It does bloom after a few months. It can grow up to 24 inches tall. Water them every 2 times a week until it flowers, after that water them once a week.

WHEN TO HARVEST LAVENDER?

It can be harvested as soon as the flowers start appearing in the plant. After 6 weeks. The flowers have to be completely dry. It also depends what it is going to be used for. Drying the flowers take a week. Once the flowers are dry they can be used as fragrance sachets or Organza pouches, or linen pouches.
