HOW TO GROW TURMERIC IN A CONTAINER?
Turmeric is a flowering tropical plant that loves heat and humidity. It is a perennial plant. It dies in the winter. It regrows in the spring It has long edible leaves and beautiful edible flowers and Turmeric is the root.
Turmeric rhizomes are place in the oven under low temperature then they are powdered and used in medicine and as food, in shakes, and as condiment for food.
Get turmeric root pieces from the food market. Make sure they are firm. Soak the turmeric in water for a day. That process clean the tumeric from any chemicals. After turmeric has been soaked for a day place them in a container. Take a container with a seed starter sterilized mix. If you want to create a green house effect buy a baking pan from the 99 C store with a clear cover.
Brake the turmeric into small pieces. Make sure each piece has an eye. Place the the turmeric roots on top of the container full of soil. Cover them with a thin layer of sand and a thin layer of compost. Keep them very moist. Use warm water not hot. Cover them to keep them warm. Turmeric loves heat. Turmeric will start germinating after a week. After 2 weeks the plant has sprout and it is growing.
After 2 weeks it is ready to be transplanted into containers. Take them apart gently. Separate them. Place them into bigger containers. Turmeric grows across horizontally. It needs a lot of space, be aware of that when transferring into a bigger container. They need shallow containers. When you transfer the plants plant them to new containers with drainage holes.
Turmeric takes 8 to 10 months of warm weather to harvest. When the leaves get brown it is time to harvest Turmeric.
