Dill is a annual herb. It is part of the celery family. It has a slender hallow stem. The leaves are thread like. It grows tall, and is widely grown in Europe and Asia. The leaves and the seeds are used for perfumery, spices, and flavoring. It needs hot summer weather to grow and rich, well drained soil. The temperature of the soil is best at 70 degrees to grow DILL well. It grows well with cucumber and broccoli. It does very poorly if it grows with tomatoes. It takes 14 days to grow from seeds.

WHER DOES THE WORD DILL COMES FROM?

The word DILL comes from the German language. DILL is a very old herb. It has been found in some Egyptian tombs. It grows wild in Greece.

DILL is a versatile herb. it can be used in many dishes, salads entrees, for pickles, to add in breads. The best form to be used is when is fresh. It is mainly used as a top herb to top many dishes. It is also used as a drink, and the oil is extracted from its leaves, stem and seeds. People use DILL in different ways for different dishes all over the world.

HOW DO YOU USE DILL

DILL is used in sauces and spreads. It is added in some butters. It is mostly used when preparing fish dishes. It is used as a condiment in soups and rice. Dill oil is used in salads. It enhances the flavor of the dish.

As a medicine Dill leaves are used to prevent the formation of gas in the stomach, and to combat flatulence, to treat motion sickness.

GROWING DILL

You can grow DILL indoors, outdoors, in containers, in small pots right in the kitchen.

WHAT YOU NEED

Small pot, seeds,, soil, compost, crushed egg shells, water.

WHAT TO DO

Place some soil in the pot a few inches of soil. Add the seeds not that many 4 seeds . Cover the seeds with more soil. Add some compost, and the egg shells very well crushed, Pour some water. Keep the pot moist. Place the new plant in a warm place where there will be plenty of sun. Watch the new DILL plant grow. Use the leaves in your cooking. Enjoy the new Dill plant.
