HOW TO GROW CATNIP PLANT FROM SEEDS?
Catnip is a herbaceous ornamental plant that has aromatic foliage that grows to be up to 4 feet tall. it smells closely to mint. The leaves are small triangular shapes. It has small pink flowers. Cats love this plant. They enjoy to rob their bodies on it. It also attracts butterflies and bees. It is repellent for some insects like aphids and squash bugs.
HOW TO START GROWING FROM SEEDS?
Get a container 18 inches wide and 24 inches deep. Fil it up with good quality seed raising mix soil. Wet the soil. keep it moist not wet. Avoid planting in a waterlogging area it will rotten the root.
HOW TO STRATIFIED CATNIP SEEDS
Catnip seeds need to be stratified. Take seeds place them in the freezer over night. Take them out and soak them in water overnight. Place 3 seeds in a shallow hole on top of the container 1/2 an inch down. Push it down gently. Space the seeds 4 inches apart from each other. Cover the container with a layer of compost. Add water. Keep the soil temperature at 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Place it near a sunny window . Watch them grow. Enjoy them. Catnip will germinate after 10 days.
Catnip grows very well in full sun and well – drained soil. It also does well in partial shade.
PLANTING THE SEEDLINGS TO A BIGGER CONTAINER
When the catnip is 5 inches tall it is ready to be transfer to a bigger container or to a the ground. Dig a hole twice as big as the root and at the same depth at the root ball. Place the plat in the hole cover with soil and water thoroughly. Plant the new plants 1 foot apart from each other to allow for air to circulate and help with the plants grow. Spacing the plants help prevent diseases. Once you have plant the catnip it is very easy to take care. Water once a week. Watch it grow.
HARVESTING CATNIP
Start harvesting catnip at anytime once the leaves are big enough during the whole season. Cut the leaves to stop the plant from booming.
