HOW TO GROW BASIL IN POTS INDOORS

Basil is a very tasty herb. It is used in salads, salsas, soup, Pesto, and many other dishes.

Basil is one of the easiest herbs to grow indoors. Basil is a subtropical plant. It grows well in the hot weather. However, It can grow indoors anytime month including in the winter. It needs a little more attention. As the cosmopolitan gardener you can grow it anytime and enjoy all the delicious basil dishes anytime of the year.

Chose an 8 inches deep and 6 inches wide planter that has a hole at the bottom for the water to go through. Fill the pot with potting mix. The soil temperature has to be around 75 degrees and 80 degrees. Place seeds on top add a layer of compost. Press the seeds down. Add some warm water. Keep the soil moist and warm. Cover the plant with a plastic cover until they germinate. It will take a week to germinate. Keep the plant cover until the seedlings are well stablished and ready to be move to their permanent place. Place them near a window. Watch them grow enjoy them.

Basil leaves will grow within 2 to 3 weeks. Wait for them to be big enough to star taking them. The plant will continue to grow leaves as long as you take them. The more you cut them the more it will produce them. You can have basil leaves for a long time. If the plant makes flowers it will stop producing leaves.
