When planting garlic, pick a large head of organic garlic. If it not organic it may not grow. If will be sprayed with a sprout inhibitor. It will not be allowed to grow. Pull the cloves apart. The head has different size of cloves. You want to choose the biggest and strongest clove for planting.
Garlic likes loose well drained soil. It has to be moist all the time. They like plenty of sun, 8 hours of daily direct sun. The soil has to be rich in phosphorous. That is a nutrient for root development. You also have to give an organic fertilizer every 2 months. It takes 9 months for garlic to grow.
When planting garlic dig a hole 2 inches deep and 6 inches space in between. Plant the flap part of the garlic down and the point part of the garlic up. Mulch the plant with leaves to keep the soil moist. Garlic is a pest free harvest.
Once the garlic is 4 inches log you can much the plant with leave clips to keep it moist. In 9 months the plant starting to get yellow and brown at that time it is time to harvest the garlic.
